MAPEI was founded in Milan in 1937 by Rodolfo Squinzi. It is now one of the largest manufacturers of adhesives and chemical products for the construction industry, with 96 plants across 36 countries, subsidiaries in 57, and more than 12,500 staff.
The group runs more than thirty research laboratories, coordinated from the original Milan site. Products across the range are formulated to work together, so the mortar, grout and sealer for a job come from one system.

Thinsets
Tile adhesive
Polymer-modified and dry-set mortars, from Kerabond through Keraflex Plus and the Ultraflex line. A dry-set A118.1 mortar and a modified A118.4 mortar behave differently over a membrane, on a wall, and under large-format tile. Tell us the tile size and the substrate and we will match the grade.
Grout
Joint filling
Keracolor in sanded and unsanded, and Ultracolor Plus. Ultracolor Plus is fast-setting, polymer-modified and non-shrinking, holds colour consistently across a floor, and covers joint widths from 1.5 mm to 19 mm.
Cement grout haze remover
After grouting
UltraCare Cement Grout Haze Remover: an acidic, low-odour, non-flammable, water-based formulation for removing cement haze from tile, concrete and stone. Haze is easier to remove before it has fully cured, so it is worth buying at the same time as the grout.

Stone, tile and grout sealers
Penetrating sealers in three grades: water-based Penetrating, water-based Penetrating Plus for higher protection, and solvent-based Penetrating SB for the hardest exposure. All three are natural-look, so they protect against staining without adding shine, and all three suit natural stone, unglazed tile and cement grout.
UltraCare cleaners
Everyday and heavy duty
The concentrated neutral cleaner is for routine washing of a sealed floor, since most household cleaners are alkaline enough to strip a sealer over time. The Heavy-Duty Stone, Tile & Grout Cleaner is a high-alkaline concentrate for removing wax, grease, oil and light soap scum.
The wider MAPEI catalogue extends beyond this, into waterproofing membranes, levelling compounds, admixtures and repair mortars. If a specification calls for something we are not holding, ask at the counter and we will price it in.
Things worth knowing.
Match the mortar grade to the job
A dry-set A118.1 mortar and a polymer-modified A118.4 perform differently over membranes, on walls and under large-format tile. An under-specified mortar usually shows up at the joints later rather than during installation, and correcting it means lifting the tile.
Joint width decides sanded or unsanded
Unsanded grout suits joints of roughly 1.5 to 3 mm. Sanded is used above that, because unsanded can shrink and crack in a wider joint. On polished marble and other easily scratched faces, sand in the grout can mark the surface, so check before grouting.
Seal porous stone before grouting
A pre-grout sealer on travertine, limestone or honed marble stops grout pigment soaking into the face of the stone. Once the grout has gone on unsealed, the staining is difficult to reverse.
Acidic cleaners and natural stone
The cement grout haze remover is acidic, which is what makes it effective on cement. The same acid etches marble, limestone and travertine. On calcareous stone, use a product rated for it and test a small area first.
Allow for cure times
Mortar needs time before grouting, grout before sealing, and sealer before the room goes back into use. High humidity extends those windows rather than shortening them.
